And Awe Came Upon Them

Acts 2: 42-47 ESV
As we continue the sermon series on discipleship, read the following text from Acts. Pray before you read, asking God to show you the truths of this passage.

"And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved."

Consider
  • What did the newly formed church devote themselves to doing? Make a list.
  • How did God act among this group of believers?  Again, write down what you notice.
  • Can we compare the early church to the modern church, why or why not?
  • Do any of these verses convict you?  How so?
  • What does it mean to have a generous heart?

"Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit." Psalm 51
