Current Events
It's easy to get bogged down in the current events of our day: real and fake news abounds, flooding our screens and our minds, causing us to wonder how much more we can take - how much more can the world take. How much more can God take? Even in the Book of Isaiah, judgement looms large over scene. Judgement is a part of the picture in Isaiah, but not the only part.
Consider the poem below by Jen Rose Yokel. Can you detect any similarities between the text of Isaiah 1 and the poem? Consider, how does the poem reflect the current state of the world? How does the poem reflect the nature of God? Does the poem offer any hope?

So maybe it’s true.
Maybe the world burns.
But in other news,
I stopped for coffee on
a foggy day, then went
to the chiropractor to
get my spine realigned.
Later we replaced the
broken-hinged toilet seat
(“I bet you didn’t plan
to spend your Tuesday
between the wall and
a toilet bowl,” I joke,
holding pliers to bolt.)
After that, we make
quesadillas, watch a show,
turn in by ten, reading
by burning lamplight.
Maybe the world burns too,
and nothing is guaranteed.
but still, it is so good
to be here.

Grace Discipleship: Pray for the lost: those you know and those you don't know
Almighty God, we praise You and thank You for the glorious provision of salvation that is ours in Jesus Christ. Father, we beseech You to soften our hearts as we pray for those who do not yet know You and for those who have rejected You, that Your light may yet dawn in their hearts. Lord, we know that You are not willing that any should perish but that all may know You and inherit eternal life. Just as You are willing to leave the ninety-nine to rescue the one going astray, Lord we ask that you give us willing and compassionate hearts to reach out to the lost. Father, prepare their hearts and give us divine appointments to witness your love to them. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen. - Jim Holloway
