In preparation for Sunday’s sermon, read Isaiah 9:8-12:6
It’s a long stretch of text; take your time and go slowly. Ask questions. Write down your questions. Most importantly, ask God to enlighten your understanding of His word for transformation rather than information.
The name of the child in Isaiah 9 is supposed to point to the character of God. He is called Wonder-Counselor, Warrior-God, Lasting-Time-Father, and Peace-Prince. Which one of these titles resonates most with you today? Why?
Read 2 Corinthians 4:5-6. How does Jesus bring light?
It is easy to forget that God brings light to our darkness. How could you remind
yourself of his light this week?
Grace Discipleship: Pray for unity in the church
Dear Lord Jesus, You are our Prince of Peace and You prayed for unity in the body of Christ, that we may be united in love just as You are united with the Father in love.
Give Your children the desire to love one another as You have loved us, and let the world know that we are Your disciples by our love for one another.
Give us a hunger to live in union with each another, and may we be united as one, in the bond of peace and fellowship, in the Spirit. This we ask in Jesus’ name,
Amen.
