Babylon is Fallen
Babylon is Fallen
The link between poetry and song is strong; both lend themselves to the other. Take, for instance, this traditional poem, which has been song in various dialects and languages around the world. How do the lyrics relate to our text for this week?
Babylon is Fallen
Hail the day so long expected,
Hail, the year of full release;
Zion’s walls are now erected,
And her watchmen publish peace;
In all countries and dominions
Hear the trumpet loudly roar:
Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen,
Babylon is fallen to rise no more.
Come my people and forsake her,
Cast away your slavish fears;
Hear the voice from heav’n proclaiming,
It’s the end of all her years.
Raise your voices, she is fallen,
Lift your banners up on high:
Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen,
Babylon is fallen to rise no more.
Now her plagues are surely coming,
And her merchants all shall mourn;
All their merchandise shall fail them,
With the fire it shall burn;
Cry aloud now, kings and nobles,
Priest and people, rich and poor:
Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen,
Babylon is fallen to rise no more.
Blow the trumpet in Mount Zion,
Christ will come the second time,
Ruling with a rod of iron,
All who now His foes combine.
Babel’s garments we’ve rejected,
And her mark of slavery:
Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen,
Babylon is fallen to rise no more.

Grace Discipleship: Pray Grace Church leaders
Lord we come to you today thankful for your many mercies you have bestowed on Grace Church. It is my prayer that each member will be humble and bow to you in understanding your sovereignty, your mercy, your justice and most of all your love for your people. Help our church be a place that welcomes the lost and has effective outreach in our community. Show us where you want us to go and what you want us to do.
We pray for our Pastor. We ask he be encouraged even if it is a difficult day. We pray he continues to preach God’s Kingdom and to know the things you would have him teach.
We pray for our church leaders: our elders, our worship team, women’s ministry leaders, men’s ministry leaders and our youth leaders. You know the specific needs of each ministry. We pray they will see your provision and give all glory to you.
Since we are receiving a kingdom, that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. ~Hebrews 12:28 - Karen Vernon
